Everyone say hello to Simon! He is my saviour. My knight in shining boardshorts. Thanks to Simon, we’ve finally got some new, fresh content on EatDrinkGoldCoast. Yay! Take it away, Simon.
Since returning to living on the Gold Coast, I have been excited by the opportunities to discover new cafes & restaurants – well, new to me that is. So when my wife suggested that we should check out the Barefoot Barista for a coffee and a quick bite, before the markets, I jumped at the chance!
This little cafe is just off the Gold Coast Highway, on Palm Beach Ave. There are a few tables out the front, but you can walk through the cafe to a beautiful little courtyard out back that has comfortable bench seating. Inside, you are greeted by the rich aroma of ground coffee and friendly staff who obviously enjoy their jobs. The atmosphere is very casual and relaxed, with the owner making jokes with the staff and regulars alike.
Just inside the front door is a glass cabinet shelved with a fantastic selection of savory and sweet treats. Being breakfast, our choice ranged from fruit salad, muesli, a number of wraps, and pre-made egg dishes. It is a rather impressive display and the choices already have you considering what you might try next time you come to visit.I selected the Mexican Eggs ($8.00), which were served on top of a base of chorizo, zuchinni, roasted sweet peppers, all contained within a savoury pastry cup. As it was a selection from the cabinet, it was reheated, but the combination of flavours, topped with freshly chopped tomato, made for delicious meal. Even the slice of multi grain bread on the side was tasty.
My wife’s choice was the Breakfast Wrap ($9.50) – a tortilla wrapped around an omelette, mushrooms, caramelized onions, goats cheese and spinach. Her first bite had her commenting on it being rather bland but, after her second bite, she realised that the flavours were really much more subtle, complementing each other rather well.
Both of use ordered coffee, and were once again reacquainted with Campos coffee.
Being that we are both “Coffee Snobs” we were pleased with delicious cups of brew, that had a rich and robust flavour. Our daughter was rather impressed with her Bubba Chino, in spite of the fact that there were no marshmallows to go with it (a very important thing when you are a fan of marshmallows with your Bubba Chinos).
Finally, our little lady selected the Fruit Salad with Yoghurt. A fresh combination of watermelon, rockmelon, pineapple, red grape, and kiwi fruit, the fruit salad was doused in a light syrup of ginger, lime and mint. This was topped with natural yoghurt and julienned granny smith apple. Our girl promptly consumed three mouthfuls of this bright combination of fruits, before deciding that she only wanted to eat the grapes out of it (as a three year old is wont to do). Not that this is any slight, as I enjoyed the remains of her dish, whilst she decided to nimble on one of my slices of toast.Barefoot Barista was moderately busy with the Saturday morning breakfast crowd, with the coffee and food a little slow in the delivery to the table. However, with the atmosphere being so friendly and relaxed, and the quality of the food and coffee being quite high, this can be overlooked. The baristas hardly looked rushed but, in this case, it means that they are taking their time with producing great coffee.
I would highly recommend to anyone to go and visit the Barefoot Barista. I know that we will be again… sometime very soon.
